The regular-season numbers look great. The big-game numbers tell a different story.
The Split That Started the Argument
According to CBS Sports, from 2016 through 2022 — including playoff games — Prescott's Cowboys went 9–24 against teams that finished the regular season with 10 or more wins and 54–16 against teams that finished with fewer than 10.
That's a 27.3% winning percentage against 10-win teams versus 77.1% against everyone else.
Nearly a 50-percentage-point drop.
CBS put that gap in context: it was the third-largest decline in win percentage against 10-win teams compared with teams that won nine or fewer games for any quarterback since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger, among quarterbacks with at least 30 starts.
And the Postseason?
2–5 in the playoffs.
0–3 in the divisional round.
Zero NFC Championship appearances.
Dallas hasn't played a postseason game since the wild-card loss to Green Bay in January 2024, so none of those marks has moved. The Cowboys missed the playoffs in 2024 and 2025.
To Be Fair
Dak doesn't play defense, call every play or build the roster. The Cowboys' problems go well beyond their quarterback, and a quarterback's record against good teams is partly a record of the roster, the coach and the schedule around him.
But after a decade, it's fair to ask whether Dallas has gotten enough from its most important player when the competition is at its toughest.
Dak can put up the numbers. But can he win the games that define a legacy?
